Dave:
I sent purchase requisition to purchasing today for add-on of tilt
mechanism. You should have the order tomorrow. I showed completion
date of April 15. We don't have our order from Fredericks yet, but it
should be in process.

I talked to Pat Casteldo today and reviewed the following:
1. They plan to purchase I-beams at 40, 50 and 60 feet long. They will
be purchased without any holes.
Material is 572, Grade 50.
2. Our drawings will show the beams at the desired length(12 m , 14 m ,
and 16 m). They will mark-up the print for their shop, and leave the
two end beams extend out. (My calculations shows that the 14 m beam
will extend out 4 extra feet. The 12 m beam in the center needs to be
cut by 0.3 feet. The 16 meter beam will extend out 7.5 feet.)
3. Pat said that the beams would be derated if longer lengths of bridge
structures were used. He also said that they would consider adding a
top flange to the I-Beam if that was needed.
4. The beams crossing the top of the bridge will be Wide Flange, 24" x
146 lb. They will weld in 3/8" plate at ends to form box section where
the actuators attach. Each cross piece is approaching 3000 lbs. We
will zero out our load cells(with beam lifted above the deck) at start
of test to offset weight.
5. Pat is waiting to get the drawings of the beams from us, and the
12" cross beams that go under the structure. He wants to get that
material on order as well as the long I-beams. I told Pat that our plan
was to convert the hole spacing to even inch dimensions.
6. Pat asked about the material for the nut plate that anchors the 1"-8
UNC Socket Head Cap Screw actuator bolts. I told Pat that 1045 or 4140
that is not heat treated would work OK as long as he had thread
engagement of at least 1.5 times the bolt diameter. His alternate was
4140 that was heat-treated after tapping.
(Dave I latter looked at the drawing D1109-09. The nut plate is called
out as A490, but I did not see thickness. It also shows that is welded
to the 12" wide flange. Welding may be a problem with any of these
materials.)
